A mobile apps focused on women's safety
PROBLEM OVERVIEW
Today, women as a disadvantaged group still face security problems in a society governed by the rule of law. The plight of women is similar worldwide and may be more severe in some developing countries. Often, women are in danger when they go out alone, live alone or in domestic violence, and when they are threatened or coerced, most are unable to reach someone who can help them in the first place. As a result, the best opportunity to save themselves is missed, resulting in tragedy.

#2 Competitive Analysis
In response to women's safety issues, including travel safety and family violence, I would like to develop an IOS-based App, including but not limited to the iPhone, iPad, and iWatch.
According to the research, there are five similar products in the market:

The general situation of these products

The strengths, deficiencies of these five Apps, and some findings
EXPLORING
#1 Brainstorming & Sketching
To better solve women safety's problems, I did the brainstorming and found 8 solutions in the final. There are in total of 8 possible solutions including mobile apps or smart devices, etc.

Sketching for brainsotming with pen and pencil
#2 Storyboarding
To understand the environment and situation that women will face under danger, I did storyboarding to 8 possible solutions and gave them 8 possible scenarios.

#1 Personas
Storyboarding with Medibang
SCOPING
Based on the existing research and analysis of the news and social environment of women's safety issues and the results of user research, in order to better analyze the target users further, I totally created 4 pro-personas and 1 anti-persona.

#2 Story Mapping
According to the primary persona I created, I created 50 tasks and a narrative flow by sticky notes and used different colors to label the actions and breakdowns which blue represents tasks, yellow represents actions and red represents breakdowns.

#3 QOC (Questions, Options, and Criteria) Analysis
The final decision was made by envisioning three possible approahes and steps for users to use it, and then considering its design rationale by drawing a QOC analysis diagram. In the end, I decided to mix the approach 1&2 and give the app the following features:
(1) log in with an existing social media account and agree to T&C;
(2) send a request to a potential emergency contact and get consent, then add it;
(3) choose to skip instructions or follow them based on their experience;
(4) the user can send a quick distress message by pressing the power button three times.

REFINE THE SOLUTION
#1 Paper Prototype
I created the paper prototype to do the wireframe and tested it. Throughout the test video, I completed a total of eleven tasks, including logging in and customizing settings, and also demonstrated how to use the one-click SOS function at the end and how to get feedback, etc.
(Visit the demo video: https://vimeo.com/684822269)

During the testing phase of the paper prototype, I completed a total of one test and added options such as a bottom menu bar in the second round of revisions based on comments from interviews.
#2 Key Features

One-click ask for help
Send the SOS message and share locations to all emergency contacts by pressing the key button 3s
Emergency contact
Add the emergency contact by sending invitation, and only your friends agree then can be your emergency contacts

Recording Archive
All recording files include video and audio files will be archived on cloud and you can save or download it
Find the nearest emergency contact on the map
There is map function to help you find the nearest emergency contact to help you, it allow you to only ask for help from one person

#3 Final Prototype

Created by Sketch
#4 Impact
Women can protect themselves by asking for help from emergency contacts and share their locations
it can help achieve the quest to improve women's human rights and accelerate the achievement of gender equality
